Mereworth Community Primary School are committed to ensuring everybody is safe on the internet. As well as our House Captains and Sports Captains, this year we have a brand new set of “Digital Leaders”, also known as our E-Cadets!

These E-Cadets are Year 6 pupils, and they teach younger children about E-Safety and in-app purchases. The E-Cadets are Zac, Ellie, Annabel, Bella, Eddie, Miles, Jack, Caelan, Amilie, and Cameron and they are lead by Mrs Booth.

Our first meeting was on Wednesday 21st of October, and we discussed an ICT/Computing Club at lunchtime, a Safer Internet Day and competition. As well as this, we talked about how to talk about age appropriate games and in-app purchases. If that wasn’t enough, we also plan to have a “Computing Day” as well as a school assembly about E-Safety.

Out First Assembly:

A big round of applause for our E-Cadet Digital Leaders who ran their first assembly on Wednesday 2nd December. Year 6 pupils who are our school E-Cadets prepared and delivered an assembly all about e-safety to KS2 pupils.

Pupils came in and went out to a great song found by Georgia about staying safe online. Then children were invited to vote in a quiz, where CBBC’s Dodge had got himself in all sorts of predicaments online!

The E-Cadets then took pupils through some important facts and tips for staying safe online and at the end, every KS2 pupil was given a leaflet to take home from the charity NSPCC about e-safety.

It would appear that many of our pupils are very knowledgeable about the potential dangers online and the E-Cadets intend to keep it that way. They will be preparing some lessons / workshops with the younger year groups and will prepare activities for the whole school to take part in ‘Safer Internet Day’- a global celebration taking part on 9th February 2016.
