Cross Country Event at St Georges Primary School

On Wednesday 1st March, Mereworth sent a team to St George’s Primary School in Wrotham for a cross Country event. The weather forecast was typical for cross country; heavy rain, but non the less, children quickly signed up to represent their team. The course was around the school field and into the wooded area so gave the feeling of a steeple chase.

The children lined up; lower KS2 went first. As they broke free, Jack King was taking the lead, up over the hill and out of sight. As they came around the corner, back into view, he had lost a bit of ground, but fought valiantly to take the over all 3rd position in the race. He went on to receive the bronze medal as the 3rd placed boy. In the girls group, Rebecca Cross was also awarded 3rd place to her joy and surprise.

Our upper KS2 team was short 3 girls, however our boys lined up and took the starters whistle. Edward Leadbetter took the lead but was soon over taken on the bend a they went out of sight. We didn’t place any medals in the upper KS2 race, however over all Mereworth came in 3rd place. This was a greater achievement when you take into consideration that we had a smaller team than the other schools.

Most importantly, our team showed sportsmanship and excellent behaviour throughout the event and were a pleasure to take along.

Kwik Cricket!

5

On Tuesday 5th June a team of 10, year 6 travelled to Kings Hill sports ground to take part in the Regional Kwik Cricket tournament. We played 5 matches against other local schools in our pool, we won 3 and narrowly lost 2. After what seemed like ages and discussions with the scoring tent on games we had won and lost we just missed out on a semi final place by only 2 points. However we finished as the top run scoring school in our pool, an incredible achievement with every single squad member playing a major part in this success. It was a fun but slightly wet afternoon and I was very proud to have taken such a great team along with all of them showing determination, team work and putting a great deal of effort to achieve the best they could. Well done to Finley, Bella, Harriet, Benj, Ben, Zac, Eddie, Elliot, Harvey and Maxwell. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents for transporting them all to the event.

25th February 206 Year 3 and 4 Cross Country – Igtham Primary School

On Thursday 25th February 2016 12 children from years 3 and 4 attended the Primary Schools Cross Country finals at Igtham Primary School.

The team consisted of:

Year 3: Amber, Jaida, Connie, Freya, Luke and Michael.

Year 4: Maya, Daisy, Thomas, Harry, Ollie and John.

All the children ran a long course through the grounds of the school and into the wooded area, around the playing fields and back into the school grounds. An excellent race was run by all. Some had tactics that that they used from last years race, others paced themselves while some with gritted determination and gritted teeth sprinted to the finish.

Everybody finished the race and did themselves and the school proud.

See the wonderful pictures below!
