Platinum Jubilee 2022 Celebration

The whole school took part in a lovely Jubilee Day celebration on the last Thursday of term 5, which involved learning all about Queen Elizabeth II’s life, reign, and impact- followed by a super special lunch and an afternoon tea party where some of our local senior citizens joined us to have a sing-song and impromptu conga line! Take a look at the lovely photos from the day below!

Healthy Eating Week 2022

Our school is taking part in the Healthy Eating Week from 13-17th of June 2022. Our caterers, Edwards and Ward, are making an amazing selection of fun food for everyone to try.

Healthy Eating Week is an annual event created by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF). It’s a week to celebrate healthy living and to encourage people to make positive changes to their lifestyle. Each year, the BNF release a new set of health aims; the message for this year’s event is, ‘Eat well for you and the planet!’

Each day of the week has a different theme:

  • Monday – Focus on fibre, for meals and snacks
  • Tuesday – Get at least 5 A DAY, put plenty on your plate
  • Wednesday – Vary your protein, be more creative
  • Thursday – Stay hydrated, fill up from the tap
  • Friday – Reduce food waste, know your portions

Young Voices 2022 at the o2 Arena London

What an amazing day we all had on Tuesday 24th May- the Mereworth School Choir made their way to the o2 Arena in London for an amazing show packed with singers, dancers, musicians and more! The children had an absolutely amazing time singing and showing off their vocal talents to the parents down below- make sure to flick through the photos and enjoy! A huge thank you to Mrs Jones, Mrs Delaney, and Mr Turner for supporting the children on the day, even though it was a late show.

Sensory Garden Project – call for volunteers:
Are you able to help us during the first week back at school on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd April? Our polytunnel will be undergoing a major refurbishment and we need as much help as possible to complete this during these two days. The polytunnel will be part of the sensory garden and the refurbishment includes a new internal layout, entrance, and cover.
If you are able to help, please let us know by emailing or calling the school office – any help, however much, will really make a difference.

Make a difference Days – Summer Term 2022:
During the summer term there will be several Make a Difference Days where you will be able to come into school to help us carry out a number of maintenance jobs including painting our EYFS outside area, school fencing, gazebo and children’s benches. I hope that there will be lots of parents that can help us with our summer make-over! We are inviting parents/carers to help us during week 2 – week commencing Monday 25th April. If you are able to help, please let us know by emailing or calling the school office.

The Queen’s Jubilee: Thursday 26th May

A celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee – the whole school will spend a fun day learning about the Queen’s life and completing learning activities across the curriculum, including a focus on a particular decade in her life, a commonwealth country and completing art and design activities related to the Queen’s family and life to date. Edwards & Ward are supporting our celebration with a Queen’s Jubilee Lunch Special Menu – please see attached. Children can order their meal choice on the day during morning registration. For Year 3-Year 6 children, please ensure there is enough money in your SCOPAY account (£2.35 for the meal). Our lunchtime will be transformed for this special celebration day with staff serving the children at their tables. In the afternoon we are looking forward to welcoming senior citizens from the local community to join us for our whole school tea party outside, and after half term there will be special dance workshops for each class linked to the decade that they have studied on this day.

What does your child need for this day?

  • We would like children to come in to school wearing their own clothes and with something red, white and blue.
  • For our tea party in the afternoon, please can your child bring in a paper plate of food for themselves (not for sharing). This should be clearly named and covered (eg foil/clingfilm, and contain no nuts/seeds.
  • Children to bring in/donate decorations for our party in the afternoon e.g. bunting, Union Flags, balloons etc in red white and blue.

Our Special Menu is below:

Whole School Sponsored Walk:

We are really looking forward to our annual sponsored walk and this year all money raised will be going towards our new sensory garden, as well as improving and developing our existing outdoor learning areas – our wildlife pond, polytunnel and forest school area.

What does your child need for this day?

Please provide your child with a bottle of water and a small snack such as fruit (nothing containing nuts please). Please do not give your child chocolate or sweets as part of their snack.
Please make sure your child has appropriate clothes for the weather on the day; PE kit/sportswear including trainers (wellies if very wet), leggings/joggers (not shorts due to brambles and nettles), tshirt/long sleeve top, coat, sun hat etc, and apply sun cream before coming to school. Please remind your child that they are responsible for carrying their own snack/drink/coat etc, so not to bring too much.

Classes will start leaving the school from 9:00am. Parents/carers are very welcome to join their child’s class for our 5km walk around Mereworth Woods and back to the school where we will enjoy a whole school picnic lunch. Dogs are also welcome to join the walk (on leads please), however they will not be able to come onto school premises. Edwards & Ward are providing a GRAB BAG lunch on this day. Lunch will start from approx. 11:45am and finish at 12:45pm. Parents will leave after lunch, so that children can return to class for their afternoon learning from 1:00pm. We really hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend this special whole school event and help us to achieve our £3,000 fundraising target!
