Visitors & Trips
At Mereworth Community Primary School, we believe that learning is enriched when children have opportunities to experience the wider world. Throughout the academic year, pupils in every year group take part in a variety of educational visits and welcome a range of visitors into school to enhance and extend their learning.
Visitors
We regularly invite visitors into school to bring learning to life and provide children with hands-on experiences linked to the curriculum.
These opportunities have previously included:
- Historical workshops such as Roman Days and historical cooking over a campfire in Forest School.
- Theatre, dance and creative arts workshops.
- Science workshops.
- Road safety, scooter and Bikeability training.
- Visits from members of the local community and professionals who have shared their expertise and experiences.
Year 6 pupils also benefit from a range of workshops designed to support their transition to secondary school. These include visits from magistrates and police officers, money management workshops and the ‘Safety in Action’ programme, which helps children develop the knowledge and confidence to respond safely and responsibly to new scenarios.
Trips
Educational visits provide valuable opportunities for children to deepen their understanding of topics studied in class and to develop their independence, confidence and curiosity.
Trips are carefully planned to support the curriculum and may include visits to local and national places of interest, such as:
- The Living Land exhibition at Detling Showground.
- London museums and galleries.
- Aquariums and wildlife centres.
- Herstmonceux Science Centre.
- Historic sites and places of geographical interest.
Children in the KS2 Choir also have the opportunity to perform at special events including the Young Voices concert at the O2 Arena and the Hillfest Music Festival in Tonbridge.
Year 5 and Year 6 pupils also take part in residential visits during the summer term which provides further opportunities for the children to develop teamwork, resilience and independence while creating lasting memories with their classmates.
