Pamela Conibeer, CHAIR OF GOVERNORS
My name is Pamela Conibeer and my husband and I have been residents of Mereworth for almost twenty years, having moved here from Essex early in 1991. My own background is in education, as we moved to Kent in order for me to take up my present post as Headteacher of a girls secondary school in Medway.
I became a Community Governor in 2009 during a period of change and development for the school, which has always been at the heart of the village community, and I feel it is both a pleasure and a privilege to be part of the team as the school goes from strength to strength.
I am also the Chair of the Management Committee of The Rowans which is a Pupil Referral Unit in Walderslade, Medway.
Liz Windon, VICE CHAIR OF GOVERNORS, CHAIR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING, SEND GOVERNOR
I have worked in the Education sector for the last 31 years
I now specialise in providing independent consultancy support to schools to set up effective pupil tracking systems and assist them in the analysis of internal and external data as evidence to support their own school evaluation
I have been involved, as a LA officer, independent data consultant and a school governor, in providing evidence for Ofsted inspections which have proved effective in improving judgement on standards of achievement and progress.
I have been a school governor for the last 26 years in a number of Primary schools in Medway and Kent, and now in my 7th year at Mereworth. I am currently also a governor at Victoria Road Primary School in Ashford.
Esther Jenner, CHAIR OF FINANCE & RESOURCES / HEALTH AND SAFETY GOVERNOR
I have lived in Mereworth since 2013 with my family. I have 2 children who will both be attending Mereworth Primary School by September 2022.
I am currently a bookkeeper and received my AAT qualification in 2019. My job involves working for several different size companies looking at their finances and helping them with financial decisions to aid their businesses.
Prior to be being a bookkeeper, I worked as an estate agent running a small business and taking control of day to day running and the finances. I helped start the business from the beginning and built it up to what is now a successful estate agency.
A few years back I realised there was a need for communication within the Mereworth community, so I set up the Mereworth Group Facebook page which is ongoing.

Kate Maryon, STAFF GOVERNOR
I am the Y6 teacher and Deputy Headteacher at Mereworth and have also been staff governor on the Governing Body for the last 17 years. During this time I have mostly supported the teaching and learning committee.
I have been in education for 30 years, teaching in 4 schools in this time in the Maidstone and Edenbridge area. In my previous post as DHT of Coxheath school, I also formed part of the governing body.
Simon Phillips, EYFS GOVERNOR
Both my children have been at Mereworth school for 3 years, having moved from a 2 form entry school in Bromley. When looking for schools we were instantly struck by the warm, welcoming and personal feeling present at Mereworth, which set it apart from the others we looked at.
I have worked in the defence sector for 18 years, with experience in strategic and management roles as well as H&S and training.
Through these roles I have become very familiar with the ever-evolving challenge that digital and online security present to our young people, and indeed to us as parents and guardians trying to keep them safe. I am keen to use my knowledge to enrich our understanding and approach to this relatively new and complex challenge.
Nesceita Brooks
My name is Nessie Brooks.
I have lived in Mereworth for more than 14 years now, with Mereworth School practically on my doorstep.
My work as an Occupational Health professional has seen me working extensively with Kent and London schools for more than 35 years providing support and advice regarding health and wellbeing to ALL staff. I understand the budgetary constraints schools are currently faced with to deliver an education to our children in this ever changing world (and government).
I started working independently at the start of the Covid pandemic concentrating on advising headteachers and school staff to inform their decision making. I also provided first contact counselling by listening to their anxieties about having to continue going into the workplace, and / or providing online teaching.
I also have a great deal of experience working with all of the other sectors too.
I am excited to be a Governor for Mereworth School.
Kim Winterbottom, SAFEGUARDING GOVERNOR, CLIMATE CHANGE AND SUSTAINABILITY
My name is Kim Winterbottom and I’m the SENCO, union rep and a year 3 teacher at another local school which works collaboratively with Mereworth. I have a degree in childhood studies with special educational needs, PGCE and a masters degree in psychology which has given me a good understanding of many aspects of learning and wellbeing. I recognise the importance of inclusion and children feeling safe, happy and connected within school.
I’m passionate about the environment and politics so I’m also involved in Tonbridge and Malling Green party where I volunteer as the candidate agent. I stood as a candidate in local elections for Mereworth and as a candidate in the last parliamentary election for a neighbouring constituency. I’m particularly interested in social justice within the community so enjoy learning more about local governance and the impact this has on people’s lives in our community.
It has been a privilege getting to know the wonderful children and fantastic staff in this truly lovely school.
Nicola Wilcher, WELLBEING GOVERNOR
My name is Nicola Wilcher and I live in Kings Hill with my husband. I work as a Teaching Assistant at Kings Hill school and have done so for the past two years. My career has predominantly been working as a nanny for a variety of families looking after new-borns through to teenagers. What I love about working with children is that no day is ever the same. We can also learn from children as they often bring new knowledge in to the classroom during lessons. I understand the importance of a good education and the need for the right resources to enable this to happen. I am very pleased to be joining the board of governors and to be making a positive contribution in improving the school’s standing in the community.
Lis Clarke, PUPIL PREMIUM GOVERNOR
My name is Lis Clarke, and I have worked in leadership and strategic operational roles for over 15 years, with a focus on growing businesses and driving efficiencies. My previous experience includes serving as Operations Director at FENSA, the leading window and door installation competent person scheme, which is authorised by government (MHCLG) and accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service. I have also worked with other certification and membership bodies in highly regulated environments.
I have particular expertise in strategic operations and compliance, and I hold an Economics degree from the University of Surrey.
I share my life with my partner, our two daughters, and our two family dogs. I have lived in and around Maidstone for over 20 years and am proud to have two nephews attending Mereworth School.
As a school governor, I value the opportunity to contribute my experience and support the school’s continued growth and success.
Aaron Day
I am delighted to have joined the governing body as a Parent Governor. I have two daughters with a connection to the Mereworth School— my youngest is currently a pupil here, and my eldest recently completed her time at the school having joined after a period of home education. The warmth, care, and dedication shown by the staff in helping her settle into Mereworth life made a profound difference to our family, and it is an experience that has given me enormous respect and admiration for everything the school stands for.
Professionally, I work as a Simulation Engineer in the aerospace industry. I am a strong advocate for the importance of STEM subjects from an early age, and I am passionate about helping children appreciate just how broad and varied the career paths are that draw on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — from medicine and architecture to software, aviation, and beyond.
As a governor, my aim is simply to support the school in any way I can. Whether that means contributing my professional perspective, engaging with the wider school community, or rolling up my sleeves for whatever is needed, I am committed to playing my part in helping every child here thrive.
I very much look forward to working with the staff, fellow governors, and families to support the continued success of the school.

Governance Arrangements
The Governing Body of Mereworth Primary School is made up of 13 Governors. There are: 2 Staff Governors (including the Headteacher), 2 Parent Governors, 1 Local Authority Governor and 8 Co-opted Governors.
Co-opted Governors are appointed by the Governing Body and are people who have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school. All our governors bring a rich and varied range of experience and expertise from their working backgrounds.
The full Governing Body meets three times per year and, in addition, we have committees to consider the different aspects of the school in more detail.
These committees are:
1 The Finance and Resources Committee
This committee focuses on health and safety, finance, premises, personnel matters and oversees the use and outcomes of specifically directed funding for identified pupil groups.
2 The Teaching and Learning Committee
This committee focuses on our curriculum provision, the outcomes of all pupils including pupils with SEND, the allocation of specific grants and their impact on pupil progress and attainment.
3 The Pay and Performance Committee
The committee meets on 2 occasions per year to oversee the arrangements and outcomes of the Pay and Performance procedures for the teaching staff and the support staff to ensure that these are fair and equitable and in accordance with required processes. This committee also oversees the annual appraisal process for the Headteacher in liaison with the external advisor.
All governing body meetings take place face to face.
